Eaux Claires 2017
Founded by Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and Aaron Dessner of The National back in 2015, the Eaux Claires Music and Arts Festival is set to return to Wisconsin on June 16th for two full days and nights of music, arts and dance. From Perfume Genius to Danny Brown, you can peruse our picks of the bill below.
From the sparse fragility of his debut, to the pulsing, industrial-pop on 2014’s Too Bright, Mike Hadreas’ arrangements have become progressively bolder with each release. Even so, latest LP No Shape is the Seattle-based singer-songwriter’s least inhibited – and finest – effort yet, ricocheting between rococo trills and swooning strings, strutting funk and pared-back piano ballads. Hear the highlights during Perfume Genius’ Saturday night set, alongside classics like “Queen”.
Though recently seen collaborating with Run The Jewels and Gorillaz, Danny Brown is still technically touring 2016’s superb album Atrocity Exhibition. Inspired by Joy Division and Nine Inch Nails, his fourth LP paired innovative production with lyrics that swung violently between wild braggadocio and partying-induced paranoia, all the while showcasing the Detroit rapper’s dexterous, squawking flow. If there’s a more charismatic MC in the USA right now, we’ll eat our hats.
This Is The Kit
Formerly signed to Brassland – the independent imprint owned by The National’s Dessner brothers – This Is The Kit have just joined fellow folkies Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker over at Rough Trade Records. The Kate Stables-led, Rozi Plain-starring collective are set to release their full-length for the label, Moonshine Freeze, on July 14th but you can get a sneaky preview of the new songs at Eaux Claires on Saturday. Prepare to be spellbound by Stables’ lilting vocals.
