58th Annual GRAMMY Awards

Adele might not be in the running for a Grammy this year (25 was released after the cut-off date for nominations), but she’s bound to monopolize the ceremony regardless. Her latest LP has already sold more than eight million copies in the US since its release in November, and has spent eight non-consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard 200. The 10-time Grammy-winner has confirmed she will be performing on the big night, so expect a resurgence of Adele-mania, and her entire catalog to dominate the charts all over again.

What do PJ Harvey, Janis Joplin and Björk have in common, aside from their status as musical legends? None of them have ever won a Grammy. Iceland’s biggest musical export has been nominated on 14 separate occasions and has seen all except one of her studio albums receive a nod for Best Alternative Music Album. Nominated this year for Vulnicura, Björk will have to fight off competition from Alabama Shakes – whose sophomore effort, Sound & Color, is also nominated for Album Of The Year – plus Australian psych-rockers Tame Impala and their excellent LP Currents.

It’s been almost eight years since Jazmine Sullivan unveiled her Missy Elliot-produced debut single “Need You Bad”, which went to number one and made her a household name. To date, the R&B diva has 11 Grammy nods to her name, including three this year for Babyface-penned “Let It Burn” and its parent album Reality Show. In the Best R&B Album category, she’s up against stiff competition from label-mates D’Angelo and Charlie Wilson, plus newcomers Leon Bridges and Andra Day.
