7digital What we said: In light of his claim to be a “non-musician”, it’s pretty clear that Brian Eno is not one for convention. Dreamt up while pondering the binary forces of “paranoia and hubris”, the latest solo album of the ex-Roxy Music man marries the lush, limitless ambience of 2012’s LUX with breathtaking vocal harmonies, seeing him transform his voice into an instrument of its own with the help of immersive 3D recording techniques. Concluding with an otherworldly rework of The Velvet Underground’s "I’m Set Free", The Ship reminds us that while its creator is undoubtedly a technological innovator, at the heart of Eno’s genius is an emotional, human quality - one which continues to ripen with time.
